If you often say this sentence every time you read a book, then you must read Alasan Alin and meet Alin. The beautiful doctor who has a perfect life (I bet you would do whatever it takes to be in her shoes). But wait, is that the reality? Or it is just what she wants you to see?
Alin has a wonderful life—a perfect one even. On top of being a doctor, she has almost everything a girl could ever want, a kind boyfriend who will do anything for her, and two loyal best friends. Her life is flawless, right?
Imagine seeing someone’s Instagram profile, in which you can find pictures that have “luxury” written all over them. Holiday pictures, pictures with their significant others’ smiling to the camera as if saying “YES, WE’RE SO HAPPY. NOTHING CAN STOP US.” A beautiful life in one photo, but you will never know behind the scene of those pics. They keep the flaws to themselves, and so does Alin.
The title Alasan Alin (Alin's Excuses) perfectly describes Alin as a person. She always has an answer to every question and most of them are either complete lies or some kind of modified reality. In conclusion, while reading Alasan Alin, for the first time in my life that opening sentence you read in this review did not come out of my mouth. In fact, I felt the opposite.
But as you read it, you’ll feel like you’re seeing yourself in the mirror, because Alin is just like us in real life. She’s not just another fictional character, she can actually represent us. Us, with our lies and flaws.
Then you’ll learn from this book that it’s not about falling in love with perfection, but facing the flaws in our lives and being brave enough to embrace them.
The diction and the flow in this story is perfectly written. For me, I only need 2,5 hours to finish it. In my case, when I finish a book in one sitting it means that I am totally immersed! Yes, this book is that good. Such a page-turner! Simple, yet intriguing. You’ll feel that emotional roller coaster while diving deeper into Alin’s life.
The book does not just go into Alin's character, but the author also depicts our society so well within this book. I’ve seen these situations in my real life and I can’t help but smile because it is all too familiar to me.
So, if you’re looking for a light book to read, Alasan Alin might be the best option I can give! It’s like watching a movie. You can let your imagination move along as you turn the pages. A great book that will leave you with mixed feelings.
A standing ovation to the author for successfully creating a character who is full of flaws yet is still honest to herself.
